ALOHA Aquatic Center has a few key points in our philosophy that all instructors follow: - Children should look forward to swim lessons ... it is a time to have fun and learn something new.
- Parents should look forward to swim lessons ... it is time well-spent encouraging your child to learn possible life-saving skills.
- Every instructor has his or her style and techniques. ALOHA's theory is that there is a "happy medium" between being too harsh and not teaching the child anything new at all.
- The two most important things to learn are the ability to turn onto your back and/or swim to the side. In an emergency, it is so easy to panic and try to swim when a simple back float can be a safe way to breathe -- and buy some time.
- ALOHA Aquatic Center realizes the instructors have the responsibility to bond with the child and make the swim lessons fun. At the same time, the child should be progressing and developing more skills.
- We emphasize with each child the importance of having an adult around any time they are around water.
- We have periodic "safety days". This entails the child being in the water fully-clothed and reviewing all the safety skills we have learned.
- We offer Swim Training Squads for older or more advanced swimmers, letting them "try" the competitive atmosphere without a huge time or financial commitment. Aloha hosts and/or attends swim meets free to our swimmers at alternative locations.
